Bledsoe County Correctional Complex

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Description:

The Bledsoe County Correction Complex project consisted of the new construction of a new prison complex for the Tennessee Department of Corrections.  The projects consisted of the following:

  • Over 500,000 CY of site grading.
  • an internal loop road system consisting of asphalt pavement, curb, gutter, sidewalks, and parking areas
  • Ø  Over 1.5 miles of entrance road rehabilitation to accommodate the construction traffic.
  • Over 20 new prison structures with special foundation construction to accommodate prison cell and security issues.
  • a site storm water management system consisting of dry and wet ponds, curb and yard inlet structures
  • All infrastructure utilities including gas, water, wastewater, and storm water with future connection areas
  • a new waste water treatment facility to obtain compliance with state regulations.
  • a TDOC specified perimeter security system complete with site diversion berms, chain link with razor wire and numerous security check stations.

The total project cost for the prison construction will exceed $160-million.

 

GEOServices Services:

GEOServices was responsible for all QA/QC testing for the infrastructure and structure of the project in accordance with stringent TDOC and IBC Special Inspections standards.  GEOServices maintained an AASHTO approved materials testing laboratory on-site and conducted all materials testing services including soils testing (field and laboratory), concrete testing (field and laboratory), foundation observations, retaining wall inspections, reinforcing steel inspections, structural steel inspections (bridge), aggregate testing, and asphalt testing for the project.
